Acne is the most common skin condition in the United States; approximately 85% of people experience some level of acne between their teens and into their early twenties, but several continue to struggle with it even further into adulthood. Because acne is so complex, we often begin with reviewing a thorough questionnaire with our patients to come up with a treatment plan that best meets their individual acne grade and type. After this initial discovery session, we essentially break our treatment plan into 3 categories:
Quality and consistent skin care is imperative in order to get the skin in a healthy place including balancing oil production and ensuring the proper amount of exfoliation. This can go both ways, some people over cleanse and over exfoliate creating too much stress, irritation and inflammation to their skin. Others do not do enough cleansing or any exfoliation which will also exasperate acne. Some of the most common acne fighting ingredients include salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, mandelic acid and retinoids. While they all can be effective, they each have their place and without proper regimen planning, it is very easy to become overly dry and irritated often leaving patients to simply give up.
As with other skin concerns, there isn’t just one magic procedure to treat acne. At ANEU, we utilize laser and light devices such as Forever Clear BBL, AviClear, chemical peels, and clarifying facials depending upon the type of acne. We see better and quicker results by utilizing a combination therapy approach and alternating treatments. We will typically start by performing treatment 3-4 weeks apart then slowly stretching visits further apart until we can reach a comfortable and effective maintenance schedule.
This component can often be the most challenging since we all bring a different biology to the table and we all live unique lives. Diet, medications, exercise, stress, sleep, hormones and genetics are just a few factors that could be affecting your skin as well. Acne management is a team effort between providers and patients. FAQs
You will meet with one of our expertly trained Injectors that specialize in facial aesthetics, anatomy, and facial proportions. We will assess your face and thoroughly discuss your concerns and aesthetic goals to develop a customized treatment plan. Your treatment will take on average about 1 hour. This will consist of ‘before’ photos to document your progress – these are HIPAA compliant – and just for you and your provider to better appreciate your amazing results! Then a topical numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area for about 15 minutes. For even added comfort – you may add on Pro-Nox – Nitrous oxide gas to even offer more comfort and relaxation with your treatment.
The actual injections of Sculptra may only take 10-20 minutes on average. Bruising and swelling is common for the first 2-5 days and settles on average around 2 weeks. Sculptra has unique post care that requires massaging the treatment area 5 minutes, 5 times per day, for 5 days after the treatment.
These results can last over 2 years but it is recommended to have maintenance treatments, as determined by your provider, to maintain your natural looking results and most dramatically slowing the aging process!!!
ACNE
There many factors that can lead to acne in teenagers and adults. This may include an overproduction of androgen hormone, oil glands that are producing an excess of sebum, lack of proper facial cleansing, or even genetic predisposition. With the rise in food intolerances/allergies there is also a possibility that this can be a contributing factor to acne. Pores can get clogged with dirt, dead skin cells, or make-up which can lead to growth of bacteria forming a pimple or blackhead.

KENALOG CYSTIC ACNE INJECTIONS
Cystic acne develops deep under the skin, forming tender red bumps on the skin’s surface. Kenalog is a corticosteroid with powerful anti-inflammatory effects that can treat these painful lesions and inflamed pimples. When injected into acne lesions, swelling, redness, and tenderness caused by acne are improved within 72 hours. Multiple treatments may be required depending upon the size of the lesion.
CHEMICAL PEELS
Chemical peels like the Perfect Derma Peel are formulated with specific chemicals and ingredients designed to target acne. Peels with ingredients like salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and benzoyl peroxide clear out clogged pores while stripping away dead skin cells on the skin’s surface. Patients can expect improvements in their current breakout and less frequent future breakouts.
FOREVER CLEAR BY SCITON
Forever Clear BBL laser treatment combines blue, yellow, and infrared light to target acne causes and symptoms at the source. Blue light kills acne-causing bacteria in the pores; yellow light reduces inflammation and redness and will prevent future breakouts; infrared light triggers the body’s natural healing response and improves the appearance of acne scars. This is a non-invasive and tolerable treatment.
MICRONEEDLING
Microneedling triggers the body’s natural healing response and production of new collagen to resurface the skin with new, healthy skin cells. By penetrating the facial tissues with tiny microneedles, this treatment can help to lessen acne scarring with the replenishment of new collagen.
